Anatomy of bitumen pressure distributor

MAIN CHASSIS:


The chassis is the base on which the entire equipment is build. Chassis of the sprayer is a combination of two channels which will hold the unit. The width of the sprayer chassis is not fixed and can be customized. Customization is in the form of the distance between the two chassis bars. The factor influencing this is the vehicle on which the sprayer will be mounted. TANK:


The tank constructed is oval shaped and is fully insulated from all the sides by 50 mm glass wool. This insulation of the tank on all the sides will help in keeping the contents of the tank hot for longer duration. BURNER:


Burner is a simple high pressure oil burner provided for adequate heating of bitumen. Burner uses diesel fuel to heat the contents. A smaller hand torch type burner is also provided for heating the pipelines in case of any clog gage in extreme cold conditions. A fuel tank of 100 liters for the burner is provided with the machine.

ENGINE:


Engine is standard Kirloskar make of capacity 25 HP operating at 2000 rpm. Engine powers bitumen pump and air compressor.

BITUMEN PUMP AND AIR COMPRESSOR:


Bitumen pump is connected to the engine by a heavy duty clutch. The pump is of a high capacity and is gear type. air compressor is double cylinder type powered by the engine by a V belt.

SPRAY BAR:


Spray bar is of length 4.2 meters giving spraying of up to 4.5 meters. This can also be customized to achieve spraying of up to 6 meters. Spray bar height adjustment is mechanical and there is also heating facility available by circulation of pre-heated bitumen. With the asphalt distributor, a hose pipe with single nozzle is provided for hand spraying of bitumen.

PNEUMATIC SYSTEM:


Pneumatic system is for opening and closing of nozzles on the spray bar. The pneumatic hand level valves are provided near the operator’s seat.

CLEANING SYSTEM:


Cleaning system is a standard with this machine. At the end of operation, all the lines can be cleaned of bitumen by use of air and diesel. This will ensure that the next day starts with a jump.

TRANSFER LINE AND RETURN LINE:


Transfer line is for filling of bitumen inside the tank. The same bitumen pump can be used for filling of bitumen inside the tank. Return line is adjusted in such a way that you can adjust the spray bar pressure. Return line is at an angle and not parallel which makes sure that bitumen does not get stuck.

Construction equipment at Excon

Atlas has got some of our construction equipment to feature at this 2017 Excon. We are displaying some machines like below:

Drying and mixing drum of counter-flow asphalt plant with RAP – 90-120 tph

The drying and mixing drum of counter flow asphalt plant is the main component. It is the key component that allows drying and mixing to produce quality hot mix asphalt. The reason for displaying this component is that we are the most successful manufacturer of counter flow asphalt plant from India. We have successfully installed double drum type machines in several parts of India. This single drum counter-flow mixer is an addition to our current range. It is fitted with a long nose burner on the opposite end of the aggregates entry. The burner fitted is compatible with Diesel / LDO / FO. The first half of the dryer is for drying the aggregates and the second half is for mixing the same with bitumen to make HMA. It is also possible to add up to 25% RAP in the same. There is a RAP collar in the centre of the drum to facilitate addition of RAP into the mixing zone just behind the burner flame.

Drying drum and tower unit of asphalt batch mix plant – 160 tph

Drying drum is important part of asphalt batch mix plant. Tower unit is also important component for this machine. We have got a big 160 tph drying drum at display with burner fitted in the same for our customers visiting us at Excon. The tower unit along with elevator is also displayed. Tower unit comprises of vibrating screen unit, hot bins and mixing unit.


The vibrating screen unit is a four deck screening unit comprises of 4 screens laid one below the other. The different sizes of the screens will allow different materials to pass through each screen. After this the aggregates are stored into separate compartments just below the screening unit. This unit is known as hot bins. Hot bins consists of 4 compartments to store aggregates into different compartments as per size. Mixing unit is a twin shaft type mixer which is just below the hot bins compartment. It is heavily designed unit for homogeneous mixing of hot mix in short time. The mixing unit is comprised of a long gate just below the mixing unit for quick discharge of the hot mix.
Customers visiting us have had first hand experience at the product offered and also get change to climb up the tower unit. This has allowed us to get very close to customers and have them see and feel the product they are looking to buy.

Control panel of asphalt batching plant

We have got a full unit of the control panel of asphalt batching plant inside a cabin. It is equipped with SCADA interface. There is a computer and also HMI screen with the software loaded. Many customers who have visited us have taken advantage of this and asked us to give small demonstration of how to operate the machine. We have developed a software which is very user friendly.

In addition to the same we are giving demonstration to the customer for 2 important and notable advantages of our control panel.
• Demonstration of how customer can view live detailed reports of the asphalt plant without being physically present at the site.
• Demonstration of how we can access the screen and also do troubleshooting of the control panel sitting at our factory.
Both the above points will require internet connection at both the ends.

Mobile concrete batch mix plant – 45 m3/hr.

We have also got a mobile concrete batch mix plant of 45 m3/hr. capacity. It is featured with a new and improved twin shaft mixing unit manufactured by Atlas. This twin shaft type mixing unit is of capacity 1500/1000 liters. Going by the capacity this mixing unit can produce up to 60 m3/hr. The concrete plant is erected for customers to come and see the same. Many customers have climbed the stairs and also asked questions about the mixing unit. People who are new to the business have asked on how the concrete plant works and it gets easy when we can demonstrate on the machine. The control panel of mobile concrete plant is also there enclosed in a cabin. We are demonstrating customers to get detailed live reports when the machine is working without being present at the site. We are also demonstrating how we can access the panel remotely and do trouble shooting of the panel as and when required.

We are trying to get technology implemented in our machines that can benefit to the customer in a big way. Customers have also welcomed this decision and are happy with when they have seen at Excon.

Some Facts About Bitumen Tanks

When we manufacture an asphalt plant, we manufacture all its components and assemble the same at our factory. There are other manufacturers who outsource some or all of the critical components to small fabricators just to meet the deadline or because they do not have enough space available to make your machine at a single factory. We believe that this is not the correct way of doing business. Our policy is simple – we want to make sure that we give customers the best available equipment without compromising on its quality, hence the reason is that some of our customers say they our initial price is high when they compare the same with others. If we look at bitumen storage tanks that we have for asphalt mix plants it is just another component for some manufacturer but for us this part holds quite importance as far as asphalt mixing machine is considered. Bitumen tanks are used with different products like:

Bitumen storage tanks are available as direct heating or with indirect heating and customers can decide which one to buy. Direct heating tanks means that the burner is fitted to the tank and the flame of the burner heats the pipeline spread through the bottom of the tank which in turn melts the bitumen. Indirect heating tanks come with a separate heating system known as hot oil heater. This heater is equipped with a burner with coils inside. The coils circulate hot oil from the heater to the tank. This hot oil is hot when it is going towards the tanks and it heats the bitumen inside the tank. When the oil is circulated back to the heater its temperature is slightly low due to the heat transfer done and its temperature is again elevated when it passes through the heater.

Bitumen tanks for sale are also available as mobile or stationary depending on your choice and application. They are also available with or without pumping station.

Atlas also manufactures asphalt storage tanks in two shapes: O shaped and U shaped. Both these tanks have their own advantages. Usually U shaped tanks are more suitable when you need to empty bitumen that comes in barrels as the top part of the tank is flat to facilitate easy walking. O shaped tanks are also preferred by many customers as they look a bit better than U shaped tanks. O shaped tanks have a small platform for a person to walk and even for unloading of bitumen that comes in barrels.

Maximum sized tank that can be accommodated in a 40 ft. container is 30 tons. Higher capacity asphalt tanks are also available for sale.

What is a bitumen sprayer?

You will always need high-quality equipment that will deliver as and when required so that you can get the task done with fewer efforts. The property of bitumen is different and seasoned road contractors know that it has to be handled with care. Mismanagement can lead to an accident and also wastage. Hence the selection of any equipment must be important. There are many companies offering bitumen sprayers for sale in India. But the million-dollar question is: who is the better or who is more competitive or whose product is trustworthy? This can only be answered if one goes through the basic understanding of the machine, the manufacturing, and testing process that a company uses, and also the customer reviews that a company has got over the years.

What are the qualities that make a good bitumen sprayer truck?

One of the most basic qualities and functions of this equipment is to store bitumen in a tank, heat it when required, and then spray the same in controlled quantity on the surface while the vehicle on which the entire setup is mounted moves slowly to make effective spraying. A complete bitumen spray tank has to be mounted on a truck chassis which can take it from one place to another while the spraying process is done.

  • SPRAYER CHASSIS: Sprayer chassis is built as per the truck chassis on which the bitumen sprayer is fitted. Depending on the width of the truck chassis, the width of the sprayer chassis is determined. The main tank and spraying unit is then fitted on the base chassis. This base chassis of the equipment can then be fitted to the customer’s vehicle at their site or our factory.
  • TANKS: The tank for the bitumen sprayer is mounted on the main chassis. It occupies a large part of the chassis. The tank is one of the important components. The purpose of the tank is to hold the bitumen and heat it as and when required. This tank is fabricated with a 5 mm MS sheet and carefully welded to avoid any leakage. Over the tank, a sheet of glasswool of 50 mm thickness is put. This is done to reduce the heat loss in the sprayer tank. Less heat loss means less fuel consumption required to heat the bitumen inside the spray tank = more profit. The outer sheet of the tank is a galvanized sheet. Galvanized sheet scores better in terms of anti-corrosion and is better than regular MS sheet. The tank consists of an internal coil that is used for heating the bitumen inside. A manhole on the tank for filling the tank is provided. The tank can also be filled from the side as there is a three-way cock given on one side of the machine. The manual and electronic temperature gauge is provided with the equipment. A ladder is provided for ease of access to the tank’s top and drains out cock is also provided.
  • BURNER UNIT: Many bitumen sprayer manufacturers tend to ignore or play with this component. This unit is one of the important elements of the machine. It has to be of the best quality possible. This high-pressure oil burner should be capable of heating the contents of the tank quickly. There is also a small hand burner provided with the equipment. It is extremely useful in extremely cold conditions where chances of bitumen clogging are high or in some conditions where the spraying lines are not cleaned properly or adequately.
  • ENGINE: This is a single-stage twin cylinder air cooled diesel engine. It is of 25 HP power made by Kirloskar. The engine drives the bitumen pump and air compressor. Its fuel consumption is approximately 3-4 liters per hour. Considering the bitumen sprayer price, the components used by Atlas are all renowned.
  • BITUMEN PUMP AND AIR COMPRESSOR: Both bitumen pump and air compressor are engine driven. Bitumen pump is a gear type pump with a capacity of 380-450 liters per minute. Hence it is very effective considering the spraying and also for fast filling of the tank. The Air compressor is a double cylinder and of reputed make. It is used for the opening and closing of pneumatic valves and also for pressurized cleaning mechanism that uses air along with diesel.
  • SPRAYING SYSTEM: The spraying system consists of the spray bar and the ancillary components that help it open and close to the nozzles. The standard width of the spray bar with Atlas bitumen sprayer truck is of 2.4 meters. This is when the spray bar is closed. When the spray bar is opened the spray bar width is 4.2 meters which can give spraying of 4.5 meters. We are among few bitumen sprayer manufacturers that have successfully manufactured 6.0 meters spray bar. These spray bars have height and width adjustment facility. Depending on the conditions, you can adjust the width (2.4 meters or 4.5/6 meters) and also the spray bar can be taken up in case you are not going to use the machine for a long period or in case you are going to take the sprayer to a different place. By taking the spray bar up it will be more comfortable to run the truck at a higher speed when not in use. By circulating preheated bitumen, it is also possible to heat the spray bar. All the quality machines must be equipped with a hand spray pipe of suitable length. This is to cover upsides of the roads which may have been left out during the spraying process. A hand lever valve is provided near the operator’s chair. This pneumatic hand lever valve is useful for opening and closing of the spray nozzles of the bitumen sprayer machines.
  • CLEANING SYSTEM: Easy to use and an effective cleaning system is the highlight of any good machine. A proper and effective cleaning system will ensure that the equipment is ready for the next day’s use. Since this equipment is using bitumen and the properties of bitumen are such that it gets sticky and hard as its temperature lowers. This property of bitumen makes it very difficult to deal with as it tends to clog the pipelines with the drop in temperature. The effective cleaning system of the asphalt distributor consists of a simple process by using air and diesel. At the end of the day, the bitumen line has to be cut off and the spray bar can be cleaned by using a combination of air and diesel. This means that the lines are clean and the machine is ready to work when required.
  • TESTING BEFORE DISPATCH: Testing of bitumen sprayer before dispatch is one of the key factors that make a product very strong. Every sprayer that leaves our factory is factory checked and inspected and the end product that leaves is of top-notch quality. The tank is filled with water and spraying is done to check for leakages and optimum spraying of the machine.
